Mindfulness app aims to bridge mental health treatment gap
NCT ID NCT06840457
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a smartphone app that teaches mindfulness and sends personalized messages can reduce depression and anxiety in people waiting for in-clinic mental health services. About 4,400 adults seeking care at Michigan Medicine will use the app and report their symptoms. The goal is to see if mobile tools can offer immediate, scalable support during treatment delays.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
mindfulness training app with tailored text and visual messages
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a low-cost, scalable way to help people manage depression and anxiety while they wait for in-person mental health treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a large but early-stage behavioral study without a control group for all comparisons, so results may show only modest benefits. The app requires daily smartphone access and English literacy, which may limit who can benefit.
