Cheaper video laryngoscope put to the test in infant intubation trial
NCT ID NCT07351227
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two video laryngoscopes—the standard McGRATH™ MAC and the newer BESDATA BD-DF—for placing breathing tubes in infants during surgery. Researchers want to see if the BESDATA device works just as well on the first try and is more cost-effective. About 226 children aged 6 months to 3 years will be randomly assigned to one device during elective surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- videolaryngoscope device
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could show that a more affordable video laryngoscope works as well as a standard one for infant intubation, potentially reducing healthcare costs without compromising safety.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage comparison study, not a large trial. Results may not apply to all hospitals or age groups, and the cheaper device might still prove less effective or have hidden costs.
