Ultrasound showdown: which test best spots returning liver cancer?
NCT ID NCT07600346
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two contrast-enhanced ultrasound scoring systems (LI-RADS and ESCULAP) to see which one better detects recurrent liver cancer in 105 patients who have had surgery for hepatocellular carcinoma. The goal is to improve diagnostic accuracy for new liver lesions. Participants will receive a contrast-enhanced ultrasound, and results will be checked against biopsy or follow-up data.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (with injected contrast agent)
What this could lead to
If this study succeeds, it could help doctors more accurately detect returning liver cancer after surgery, potentially leading to earlier treatment.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage diagnostic comparison study, not a treatment trial. The results may not change current practice, and the methods may not work equally well for all patients.
