New anal surgery may beat laparoscopy for rectal cancer
NCT ID NCT02584985
First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study compared two types of surgery for low rectal cancer: a newer method that operates through the anus (transanal) versus the standard laparoscopic approach through the abdomen. 226 adults with non-spread rectal cancer took part. The goal was to see if the newer method is as good at removing all cancer while possibly leading to fewer complications and better recovery. Results will help doctors choose the best surgical option.
