Which scan spots hidden tumors best? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT05255159
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares three different PET/CT scans (68Ga-HA-DOTATATE, 18F-DOPA, and 18F-FDG) in 50 people with metastatic neuroendocrine tumors. The goal is to see if all tumors show up on the standard scan or if some are missed, which could change treatment. Participants will get all three scans, and results will be compared lesion by lesion.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
68Ga-HA-DOTATATE, 18F-DOPA, and 18F-FDG (radioactive tracers used in PET/CT scans)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors choose the best scan to detect all tumor spots, leading to more accurate staging and better treatment decisions for people with neuroendocrine tumors.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study (50 people) at one center. It compares scans but does not test a new treatment, so any impact on patient outcomes is uncertain.
