New nerve block combo may spare breathing while killing shoulder pain

NCT ID NCT05444517

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested two ways to numb the shoulder after surgery: the standard interscalene block and a combination of two other blocks (infraclavicular and anterior suprascapular). The goal was to see if the combination could provide equal pain relief without causing temporary diaphragm paralysis, a common side effect of the standard block. Fifty adults having arthroscopic shoulder surgery took part, and their pain levels were compared at rest after surgery.
