Which intubation method keeps heart rate and blood pressure more stable?
NCT ID NCT06487988
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two methods of placing a breathing tube during general anesthesia without using opioid painkillers. The goal is to see which method—fiberoptic or direct laryngoscopy—causes less change in heart rate and blood pressure. Researchers will study 90 adults aged 18 to 55 having elective surgery. They will also check how long intubation takes and if patients have sore throat, hoarseness, or airway injury afterward.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If fiberoptic intubation proves more stable, it could guide safer anesthesia practices for patients who cannot receive opioids.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (90 participants) focused on short-term vital signs, not long-term outcomes. Results may not apply to all patients or settings.
