New drug cocktails aim to tame transplant complications in blood cancer patients
NCT ID NCT06859424
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether new drug combinations can better prevent graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in people with blood cancers who receive a stem cell transplant from a mismatched unrelated donor. About 358 participants will get either the standard GVHD prevention or one of two experimental combinations. Researchers will compare how well each approach prevents GVHD and relapse while keeping patients alive and healthy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy) combined with ruxolitinib, tacrolimus, and MMF, or with abatacept and tacrolimus
What this could lead to
If successful, this could identify a safer, more effective drug combination to prevent graft-versus-host disease, improving outcomes for blood cancer patients receiving stem cell transplants.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 2 trial, so results are preliminary. The new combinations may not be better than standard care and could have unexpected side effects like infection or organ damage.
