First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether combining a baby's first checkup after leaving the hospital with a lactation consultation helps more mothers breastfeed longer. About 246 mothers who plan to breastfeed will either get the combined visit or separate visits. Researchers will track breastfeeding rates at several points up to 12 months after birth.

Active substance

Combined Newborn and Lactation Visit

What this could lead to

If it works, this could show that a single combined appointment makes it easier for new mothers to start and keep breastfeeding.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early study at one health system, so results may not apply everywhere. It only looks at breastfeeding rates, not other health outcomes.
