New cocktail aims to shrink untouchable liver tumors into surgical candidates

NCT ID NCT07483359

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests a combination of three drugs—chemotherapy infused directly into the liver, a targeted pill, and an immunotherapy—in 38 people with advanced liver cancer that has spread into the main portal vein. The goal is to shrink the tumor enough so that surgeons can remove it completely. Participants will receive treatment for up to 6 cycles, and researchers will measure how many become eligible for surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

FOLFOX-HAIC (chemotherapy infusion), lenvatinib (targeted therapy), and tislelizumab (immunotherapy)

What this could lead to

If successful, this combination could shrink advanced liver tumors enough to allow surgical removal, potentially improving long-term survival for patients who currently have few options.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study (38 people) with no control group, so results may not apply broadly. The drugs can cause serious side effects like liver damage, bleeding, or immune reactions.
