Mini-Tumors grown in lab could unlock colon cancer resistance secrets
NCT ID NCT05038358
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study collects tumor samples from 60 patients with colorectal cancer before they receive any chemotherapy. Researchers will grow mini-tumors (organoids) in the lab to study how the immune system and tumor cells interact. The goal is to understand why 30-50% of patients do not respond to chemotherapy from the start, which could lead to better personalized treatments in the future.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this research could identify new markers to predict chemotherapy resistance and pave the way for personalized treatments for colorectal cancer.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage observational study with only 60 participants. It focuses on lab research, not direct patient treatment, so benefits may take years to materialize.
