Old drug, new hope: colchicine may shield type 1 diabetes hearts

Summary
This study tests whether colchicine, a medicine used for gout, can lower inflammation and reduce the risk of heart disease in people with type 1 diabetes. About 100 adults with type 1 diabetes will take either colchicine or a placebo daily for 26 weeks, with an optional extension. Researchers will measure changes in blood markers of inflammation and blood sugar control.
