Old drug, new trick: colchicine may ease Post-Clot complications

NCT ID NCT06440694

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests whether a low dose of colchicine, a medicine usually used for gout, can reduce the risk of post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) after a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the leg. PTS can cause pain, swelling, and skin changes long after the clot resolves. The trial will enroll 150 adults with a first DVT and randomly assign them to colchicine or a placebo for a set period, measuring how many develop PTS and how well the study procedures work.
