First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether combining cognitive remediation training (a computer-based program to improve thinking skills) with mild brain stimulation (transcranial direct current stimulation) can help people with severe mental illness who live in supported housing. The goal is to improve daily functioning and personal recovery. 126 adults aged 18-65 are taking part, and the study compares the active treatment to a sham (fake) stimulation.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.

- transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could point toward a way to improve thinking and daily living skills for people with severe mental illness who need supported housing.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage study with only 126 participants, so results may not apply widely. The brain stimulation is mild, but individual responses can vary and benefits may be small.
