New therapy for chronic neck pain shows promise in small trial
NCT ID NCT06063408
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compared cognitive functional therapy (CFT) to conventional therapy for adults with chronic neck pain lasting over 3 months. Sixty participants were randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. CFT combines physical exercises with psychological strategies to help patients understand and manage their pain. The goal was to see if CFT reduces pain intensity and disability more than standard care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Cognitive Functional Therapy (a behavioral approach that combines physical exercises with psychological strategies to help patients manage pain)
What this could lead to
If successful, this therapy could offer a more effective, drug-free way to reduce chronic neck pain and improve daily function.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The therapy requires active participation and may not work for all types of neck pain.
