Could a simple CO2 test save more lives from septic shock?
NCT ID NCT07179276
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study compares two methods for guiding early treatment of septic shock: the standard approach using lactate levels versus a newer method using the CO2 gap, which measures carbon dioxide in the blood. Researchers want to see if the CO2 gap method can better identify when tissues aren't getting enough blood flow, potentially reducing deaths. The trial will involve 750 adults in intensive care units with septic shock.
