Experimental combo therapy aims to stop leukemia return after transplant
NCT ID NCT06735690
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early-phase trial tests whether giving special immune cells (CMV-specific CD19-CAR T cells) along with a vaccine (CMV-MVA triplex) is safe and feasible for 15 people with high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia after a stem cell transplant. The modified T cells are designed to target and kill leukemia cells, while the vaccine may help boost the immune response. The main goals are to check for side effects and see if the treatment can be given as planned.
What this could mean

What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a safer way to prevent leukemia relapse after a stem cell transplant.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small trial (15 people) focused on safety. The treatment may not work or could cause serious side effects like cytokine release syndrome.
