NCT ID NCT07513623

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Aug 12, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether oral valganciclovir or ganciclovir eye drops can reduce the virus causing eye inflammation and prevent flare-ups. About 117 adults with CMV anterior uveitis will receive either antiviral treatment or placebo for 7 days, then some continue for 12 months. The goal is to find a better way to control the infection and keep the disease from coming back.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Valganciclovir (oral) and ganciclovir (eye drops)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide effective antiviral strategies to control CMV eye inflammation and reduce the risk of it coming back.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 2 trial with a small number of participants. The treatments may not work better than placebo, and side effects from antiviral drugs are possible.
