NCT ID NCT07535424

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compared two ear drop treatments for otomycosis, a fungal infection of the outer ear that causes itching, discharge, and blockage. Sixty patients were randomly assigned to receive either clotrimazole or 2% salicylic acid drops three times daily for two weeks. The main goal was to see which treatment better relieved ear blockage and cleared fungal debris.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

clotrimazole ear drops and 2% salicylic acid ear drops

What this could lead to

If one treatment proves clearly better, it could become the standard first-choice therapy for fungal ear infections, offering a simple and affordable option.

What could go wrong

This is a small, single-center study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The trial is completed but not published in a major journal, so evidence is limited.
