New device zaps brain in sync with tremors to quiet shaking hands
NCT ID NCT06993571
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a non-invasive device that delivers mild electrical stimulation to the cerebellum, timed precisely to each patient's hand tremor rhythm. Ten people with Parkinson's and moderate-to-severe hand tremor will receive both real and sham stimulation to see if the real treatment reduces shaking. The goal is to find a new, drug-free way to ease one of Parkinson's most stubborn symptoms.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
closed-loop transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) device
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a drug-free, on-demand way to calm Parkinson's tremors without surgery or medication side effects.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early feasibility study with only 10 people. The effect may be weak, temporary, or not work at all outside the lab.
