Could a Two-Pill combo cut stroke recurrence?
NCT ID NCT06638151
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
After a stroke, patients are at high risk of having another one, especially in the first 21 days. This study tests whether adding clopidogrel to the standard aspirin treatment is safe and feasible for preventing a second stroke. About 200 patients who had a mild to moderate stroke will be randomly assigned to take either aspirin alone or aspirin plus clopidogrel for 21 days, then followed for three months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
aspirin and clopidogrel (antiplatelet medications)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a short course of dual antiplatelet therapy is a safe and effective way to reduce the risk of a second stroke in the first three weeks after treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase pilot study, so results may not be conclusive. The main risk is bleeding, and the study only includes patients with mild to moderate strokes, so findings may not apply to everyone.
