Could a simple change in heart surgery reduce inflammation in babies?

NCT ID NCT07393243

First seen Feb 06, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study looks at 60 infants (1-18 months old) having open-heart surgery to fix a hole between the heart's lower chambers. Normally, the heart-lung machine is filled with donated blood, which may cause swelling after surgery. Researchers want to see if using a clear, non-blood fluid instead reduces that swelling and helps recovery. They will also study blood samples to understand how inflammation starts.
