Higher antidepressant dose may put elderly kidney patients at risk

NCT ID NCT07399795

Summary

This study looked at the safety of two different starting doses of the antidepressant citalopram in adults aged 66 and older who have reduced kidney function. Researchers analyzed health records of over 7,000 people to see if starting on a 20mg daily dose led to more hospital visits, emergency room trips, or death within 30 days compared to starting on a 10mg dose. The goal is to provide clearer guidance to doctors on the safest dose for this vulnerable group.
