Can changing positions speed up slow labor? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT06636149
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests whether a specific sequence of maternal position changes (a 'circuit') can improve outcomes for women whose labor is progressing slowly. 82 participants with prolonged labor will be randomly assigned to either the circuit or standard care. The study will measure labor duration, delivery type, and maternal satisfaction.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
circuit of maternal position changes
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, non-drug way to shorten labor and reduce complications for women with prolonged labor.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study (82 participants) testing feasibility, not effectiveness. The intervention may not improve outcomes and could be impractical in busy labor wards.
