Could a bicarbonate drink reduce emergency C-Sections?
NCT ID NCT07321379
First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study tests whether drinking bicarbonate can help first-time mothers with slow labour avoid assisted delivery (emergency C-section or vacuum/forceps). About 1,520 women will drink either bicarbonate or a placebo. If labour remains slow after 2 hours, standard care with oxytocin is given. The goal is to see if bicarbonate makes labour progress more naturally.
