First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a special dressing made from chitosan (a substance from shrimp shells) for treating damaged immature permanent teeth. The goal is to preserve the tooth's nerve and allow the root to finish growing. 26 children and teens with tooth decay or injury will be randomly assigned to get either the chitosan dressing or a standard saline dressing during a pulpotomy procedure. The main outcome is pain after the procedure.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
chitosan dressing
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a better way to treat damaged immature teeth, helping them finish growing and avoiding more complex procedures.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 26 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The dressing might not work better than standard care, and there is a risk of pain or treatment failure.
