AI chatbot may boost colonoscopy prep and ease nerves — trial puts it to the test
NCT ID NCT07732946
First seen Jul 29, 2026 · Last updated Aug 04, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This trial tests whether adding a ChatGPT-powered educational tool to standard instructions helps first-time colonoscopy patients achieve better bowel cleansing and feel less anxious before the procedure. Adults undergoing their first colonoscopy are randomly assigned to receive either standard information alone or the same information plus supervised access to a ChatGPT chatbot that answers up to ten questions in their preferred language. The study measures bowel preparation quality using a standard scale and anxiety levels with a validated questionnaire.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- ChatGPT-assisted pre-procedural patient education
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this approach could offer a simple, scalable way to improve colonoscopy quality and patient comfort without extra medication.
- What could go wrong
- This is a single-center trial with 190 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The chatbot is limited to ten questions and responses are reviewed, which may reduce its real-time benefit.
