New eczema cream shows promise in tiny trial

NCT ID NCT06923228

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This completed Phase 2 trial tested a new ointment called CGB-500 (containing tofacitinib) against an approved cream (ruxolitinib) for atopic dermatitis, a type of eczema. Only 3 people aged 12 and older took part, applying both treatments to different skin areas twice daily for 4 weeks. The goal was to see if CGB-500 reduces eczema severity and is safe to use.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

tofacitinib ointment (CGB-500)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new topical treatment option for atopic dermatitis that is as effective as existing creams.

What could go wrong

This is a very small early-phase trial with only 3 participants, so results may not apply to the broader population. The drug may not prove more effective than the comparator or could cause side effects.
