Common C-Section drug may not reduce stomach fluid, study suggests
NCT ID NCT05033041
Summary
This study looked at whether a drug called metoclopramide, often given before scheduled C-sections, actually reduces the amount of fluid in a pregnant woman's stomach. Researchers compared stomach fluid volume using ultrasound in 72 women who received either the drug or a placebo. The goal was to see if current medical guidelines for preventing a rare but serious complication called aspiration during surgery are supported by evidence.
