Zapping a neck nerve eases chronic headaches in small study

NCT ID NCT06764433

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated Jun 07, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tested a treatment called pulsed radiofrequency on a nerve at the back of the head (greater occipital nerve) in 25 adults with cervicogenic headache — a headache that starts from the neck. Participants had not gotten enough relief from standard treatments like medication or physical therapy. The approach used ultrasound guidance to target the nerve at the C2 spinal level. The main goal was to see if it could reduce headache severity and the number of headache days per month.
