Can neck surgery restore head control? new study investigates

NCT ID NCT07425613

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study examines whether anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) surgery improves the brain's ability to control head movements in people with cervical disc disease. Researchers will test 30 patients before and one week after surgery using a computer-based head-tracking task. They will compare results to a group of healthy individuals to see if surgery leads to measurable short-term improvements in movement accuracy and coordination.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) surgery

What this could lead to

If this study shows that ACDF improves head movement control, it could help doctors design better rehabilitation programs after neck surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-stage study with only 30 participants. It only looks at changes one week after surgery, so it cannot tell us about long-term benefits or risks.
