Mail-in HPV test could save lives of women skipping pap smears
NCT ID NCT04226313
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether giving women a simple self-sampling kit to use at home can increase the number of women who get screened for cervical cancer. The trial will enroll 15,000 women in Czech Republic, especially those who haven't had a Pap smear in over 3 years. Participants will collect their own sample using a brush (Evalyn Brush) and mail it in for HPV testing, aiming to make screening easier and more accessible.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Evalyn Brush (self-sampling device)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a convenient, at-home method to screen for cervical cancer, potentially catching more cases early.
What could go wrong
This is a large observational study, not a treatment trial. The self-sampling method may not be as accurate as a doctor-collected sample, and participation rates may still be low.
