First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026
Summary
This study tests a program called 'Health is Wealth: A Cervical Health Program' designed to encourage cervical cancer screening among African American and Sub-Saharan African immigrant women. Participants attend a two-hour educational session and receive an HPV self-sampling kit to use at home. The program is culturally tailored to address beliefs, barriers, and knowledge gaps. The study involves 60 women in Kentucky who have not had a recent Pap smear or HPV test.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Health is Wealth: A Cervical Health Program (educational session and HPV self-sampling kit)
What this could lead to
If successful, this program could increase cervical cancer screening rates and reduce screening barriers for Black women, potentially lowering cervical cancer rates in these communities.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to all Black women. The program's long-term impact on cancer rates is not yet known.
