Doctors track antibiotic in sickest liver patients

NCT ID NCT05960006

Summary

This study aimed to understand how a common antibiotic, ceftriaxone, moves through and is cleared from the bodies of patients with severe, decompensated liver cirrhosis. Researchers observed 20 hospitalized patients who were already receiving this antibiotic and having a procedure to drain abdominal fluid. By testing leftover blood and fluid samples, the goal was to gather data to help doctors determine the safest and most effective antibiotic doses for these complex patients in the future.
