New antibiotic combo shows promise against superbug infections
NCT ID NCT03510351
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at 200 adults with multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas infections who were treated with the antibiotic combination ceftolozane-tazobactam. Researchers tracked how many patients survived at 30 days and while in the hospital, and whether follow-up cultures showed the infection was cleared. The goal was to see if this drug works against these tough-to-treat bacteria.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ceftolozane-tazobactam
What this could lead to
If successful, this could confirm ceftolozane-tazobactam as a reliable treatment for hard-to-treat Pseudomonas infections, potentially saving lives.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a controlled trial, so results may not prove cause and effect. The bacteria may still develop resistance, and individual patient outcomes vary.
