Could a nurse-led online therapy beat severe fatigue in advanced cancer?
NCT ID NCT06511518
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This trial investigates whether an online, nurse-guided version of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can reduce severe fatigue in people with advanced cancer who are receiving palliative systemic treatment. Participants complete a 12-week online CBT program with support from their nurse, after an initial session with a psychologist. Researchers compare the results to earlier studies where psychologists delivered the therapy face-to-face, aiming to see if the simpler approach works just as well.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could make effective fatigue relief more accessible for people with advanced cancer by shifting therapy from psychologists to nurses and online delivery.
What could go wrong
The study is small (56 participants) and compares results to past trials rather than a direct control group, so benefits may not hold up in larger, real-world settings.
