NCT ID NCT07148843
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 10, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether cannabidiol (CBD), a compound from cannabis, can reduce alcohol withdrawal symptoms and cravings in people with moderate-to-severe alcohol use disorder. 105 adults will stay in a hospital for 5 days, receive either CBD or a placebo alongside standard care, and have their withdrawal, sleep, and cravings measured. The goal is to see if CBD offers a safe, non-addictive way to ease the detox process.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Cannabidiol (CBD)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, CBD could become a safe, non-addictive option to help people manage alcohol withdrawal and reduce cravings during detox.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage trial with only 105 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. CBD's effects on withdrawal are still unproven in humans, and it may not outperform standard care.
