New drug combo could slash second stroke risk in brain artery disease

NCT ID NCT07468448

First seen Mar 29, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests whether a combination of two blood thinners (rivaroxaban and aspirin) works better than the standard combination (clopidogrel and aspirin) at preventing another stroke in people who have had a stroke due to narrowed arteries inside the brain. About 1,172 adults over age 40 who had a stroke or high-risk mini-stroke within the last 30 days will take one of the two combinations for 90 days, then continue with aspirin alone. The goal is to see which approach reduces the chance of having another stroke.
