Cat videos tested as stress relief for pregnant women
NCT ID NCT07332039
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether watching cat videos during a non-stress test (NST) can lower stress in first-time pregnant women. Fifty women in their 34th-40th week of pregnancy will be randomly assigned to watch a cat video or receive standard care during the 20-minute NST. Researchers will measure stress through blood pressure, heart rate, and stress hormone levels, as well as fetal heart rate, to see if the videos help both mother and baby.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance

- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help pregnant women feel calmer during routine fetal monitoring.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, early-stage trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to all pregnant women. The effect on fetal well-being is uncertain.
