Cartoons and reflexology tested to calm kids before surgery

NCT ID NCT07151131

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether letting children watch cartoons or giving them a gentle foot massage before surgery can reduce their nausea, pain, and anxiety. About 105 children aged 4 to 6 will be assigned to one of three groups: watching a cartoon, receiving reflexology, or standard care. Researchers will measure their anxiety, pain, and nausea at several points before and after surgery.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer simple, drug-free ways to help young children feel calmer and more comfortable before surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 105 children, so results may not apply to all kids. The effects may be small or no better than standard care.
