Cartoon calms kids before surgery: new study tests if it works

NCT ID NCT07495878

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether watching a short educational cartoon about surgery can lower anxiety in children aged 7 to 12 before an elective procedure. About 159 children will be randomly assigned to watch the educational cartoon, a fun cartoon they already like, or receive standard verbal information. Researchers will measure anxiety levels right before anesthesia to see which approach works best.

Active substance
educational cartoon
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help children feel calmer before surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center trial. The cartoon may not reduce anxiety more than a fun cartoon or standard information, and results may not apply to all hospitals or age groups.
