Treadmill study reveals how uphill and downhill running changes Athletes' oxygen use

NCT ID NCT03946215

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 34 times

Summary

This study looked at how well-trained runners' hearts and lungs respond when running on a treadmill at different slopes: uphill, flat, and downhill. Eight athletes completed tests to measure their peak oxygen uptake and muscle fatigue. The goal was to see if downhill running uses less oxygen and causes less fatigue compared to uphill or flat running at the same speed.
