Scientists map hidden stress in heart surgery patients

NCT ID NCT03722979

Summary

This study aimed to understand how a specific type of cellular stress, called endoplasmic reticulum stress, changes in people during heart surgery using a heart-lung machine. Researchers measured stress markers in blood samples from 53 adults before and after their planned surgery. The goal was to gather basic knowledge about this stress response during controlled inflammation, which could inform future research.
