Could a simple drink before surgery speed up recovery?
NCT ID NCT07212153
Summary
This study tested if drinking a carbohydrate-rich beverage two hours before heart surgery helps the body manage blood sugar better compared to drinking water. Researchers enrolled 50 adult patients and measured their insulin and blood sugar levels before and after surgery. The goal was to see if this simple step could reduce insulin resistance, a common issue that can slow down healing after major surgery.
