New cell therapy trial targets Hard-to-Treat heart amyloidosis
NCT ID NCT07504289
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new treatment for people with a rare disease called light-chain cardiac amyloidosis that has come back or not responded to other treatments. The treatment uses specially engineered immune cells (CAR-NK cells) from donated umbilical cord blood to target and attack the harmful proteins in the heart. The trial will enroll 36 adults aged 18-75 and will check for safety and how well the therapy works over 28 days.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
CAR-NK cells (immune cells engineered to target BCMA and CD19 proteins)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a safer, faster-to-make cell therapy option for patients with this rare and serious heart condition.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 1/2 trial with only 36 participants, so results are preliminary. There are risks of serious side effects like cytokine release syndrome or nerve toxicity.
