Engineered immune cells take on childhood autoimmune diseases

NCT ID NCT06792799

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This early-phase study is testing a new treatment called CAR-NK cells (KN5601) in 36 children with autoimmune diseases like lupus and IgA nephropathy. The cells are designed to target and destroy faulty immune cells. Participants also receive chemotherapy to prepare their bodies. The main goals are to see if the treatment is safe and if it can help control the disease.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

anti-CD19/BCMA CAR NK cells (KN5601) with chemotherapy (fludarabine and cyclophosphamide)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a new treatment option for children with severe autoimmune diseases that don't respond to standard therapies.

What could go wrong

This is a very early (Phase 1) and small trial (36 participants), so results may not apply broadly. There are also risks from the chemotherapy and cell therapy, including serious side effects.

Conditions

The condition(s) this trial relates to.

autoimmune disease idiopathic multidrug-resistant nephrotic syndrome IgA glomerulonephritis nephrotic syndrome systemic lupus erythematosus
