Could a simple pill before surgery beat back head and neck cancer?

NCT ID NCT07254962

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving a short course of capecitabine (a chemotherapy pill) before surgery can shrink tumors and improve outcomes for people with HPV-negative head and neck cancer. About 75 adults with stage III or IVa cancer will be randomly assigned to receive either standard care or the pill before surgery. The goal is to see if this approach makes surgery less complex, reduces delays, and helps keep cancer from coming back.
