Hot pepper patch tested as new option for debilitating chemo pain

NCT ID NCT05840562

Summary

This study is testing whether a skin patch containing capsaicin (the compound that makes chili peppers hot) works as well as or better than the standard oral medication duloxetine for reducing painful nerve damage caused by chemotherapy. The trial will involve about 274 adults who have persistent, painful nerve symptoms in their hands and feet that started after certain cancer treatments. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the capsaicin patch applied once or daily duloxetine pills for 5 weeks to compare their effectiveness and safety.
