New hope for tough leukemia: capivasertib combo enters human trials

NCT ID NCT07294677

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding the experimental drug capivasertib to a standard treatment (venetoclax plus low-intensity chemotherapy) is safe and effective for adults with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) or lymphoblastic lymphoma that has come back or not responded to prior therapy. The trial has three parts: first finding the right dose, then checking safety, and finally comparing the new combo to standard treatment. About 104 participants will take part.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Capivasertib (a targeted cancer drug) combined with venetoclax and low-intensity chemotherapy

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a new treatment option for adults with hard-to-treat acute lymphoblastic leukemia or lymphoma.

What could go wrong

This is an early-phase trial (Phase 1/2) with a small number of participants, so safety and effectiveness are not yet proven. Side effects from the drug combination could be significant.
