Finger-Prick test could replace dreaded diabetes drip for kids
NCT ID NCT06815081
First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a finger-prick blood test done at home can replace the standard oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) for diagnosing type 1 and type 2 diabetes in children and young people. The standard test requires a vein drip and multiple blood draws over hours, which is uncomfortable. Researchers will compare finger-prick results to vein blood results and also test a continuous glucose monitor. About 135 participants under 18 will take part, including those already at risk for diabetes.
